Book Six of the Dark Lands Series

Even though the author clearly states the order of these books on her website--autumndawnbooks.com--I read this one out of order. It explains that lost feeling about the alien race knows as Beasts. Previous books have hinted, but the book before this one, "Ghost in Her Heart," gives the full background.
Set in the swamps, Dey and Luna were tomb raiders, Luna more so than Dey. Both lived as part of the Symbiont people and have been warned repeatedly to stay away from the tombs. Did they listen? No.
Keg and Armetris patrolled the abandoned ruins to make sure people like Luna and Dey didn't dig up old war machines and other weapons. For the last forty years, their family have tried to keep the peace with the Symbiont people. No one wants war.
When Luna goes out on a raid while on a snake hunt with Dey, she decides to raid a nearby tomb. Though Dey didn't know until Luna was caught, both were punished severely. Luna was sent to live with the Beasts, but Dey was sent to live in the swamps where no one could survive.
Armed with a tracking device, Keg had planned to rescue her. His plans went awry when in a fit of defiance, Dey removed the device. And thus, the true adventure began.
Being from the south end of Louisiana, reading about swamplands isn't as interesting for me as the other areas of the Dark Lands. Still, I enjoyed this latest installment. There were some rough areas with the dialogue, etc. "The Charmer" and "Scent of Danger" remain my two favorites, but this adds a bit of zest to the series.

Short but decent.

I was expecting a little more with this one but did enjoy the various types of fae/mythical creatures that were brought into this book. The portrayal of their personalities was amazing and it made it very easy to visualize the story as I was reading.

i don't know if this story is a part of the "darklands" series, but its a pretty good stand-alone tale. fairies born and raised in the human realm are being hunted by creatures of the fae realm. who can they trust? and who will survive?
