Good Reference for Students

Learning neuroanatomy is like being in a huge maze. Mention it to any medical student who has just had their first encounter with it, and the most likely response you'll get is a heavy sigh. More often that not, medical students faced with the task of understanding neuroanatomy will lose their way and become disheartened as they go along. The subject is vast and complex. Some may end up never quite finding their way out of this maze for their entire medical lives.
Snell's Neuroanatomy is quite comprehensive - it covers a wide range of topics from the neurobiology of neurons to neurodevelopment. At the same time, it is quite understandable. The language used is clear and concise with appropriate diagrams and tables. There is an emphasis on clinical correlations in this book as evidenced by the clinical notes in each chapter, which highlight the clinical significance of the information that has been presented in the chapter. Anatomy with little significance have either been omitted or given only brief descriptions in the book.
Clinical correlation is important, for all too often, students don't realise the practical purpose of what they are learning. Visual aids in the book include images of neuroanatomy in practice as well; quite a number of CT and MRI scans are included. There are also lots of illustrations, pathological sections and photographs. At the end of each chapter, USMLE type questions are provided. On the extremely rare occasion when the thirst for learning neuroanatomy is not satisfied, references to authoritative books and papers are given (yikes!). The whole format and overall presentation of book are similar in style to Professor Snell's more well-known clinical anatomy book.
This book will not give an instantaneous understanding of neuroanatomy but with enough effort and thought, the book does deliver. It shortens and guides one through the potentially confusing and long journey of learning neuroanatomy. All in all, this book covers enough neuroanatomy in sufficient detail to be a good reference text for students and at the same time is quite accessible (considering the subject it deals with) and would function quite well as a primary textbook also.

Check out the 5th Ed, 4th Ed was terrible

I'm in the middle of MS-II neuro and the 5th Ed, NOT the 4th, compares favorably with the popular Blumenfled text. I like Snell better because the images are a little simpler and it is more condensed. Clinical correlations at the end of each chapter are good and the questions are great. See what you think at the library first. Enjoi

Object Oriented ASP.Net!

I knew what was the difference between ASP and ASP.Net and wanted to find a book that deals with writing ASP.net page in an object oriented approach. THIS IS THE BOOK. It takes you slowly from the basics of .Net, architecture, whats new etc and has good amount of examples. My perspective about Asp.Net is changing as I'm reading this book.

If you have an asp/vb background this book is great for you. Not a reference book for ASP.Net. So ppl who have already read through ASP.Net in detail please refrain or don't complain. I absolutely love this book and so far I've finished 1/3rd of the book. I'm hoping to finish this book this week and continue on to the book by Fritz Onion.

Does what it says on the cover

I'm moving up from VB6/ASP and this book gave me a firm grounding in the main subjects without getting bogged down with too much HTML or elaborate samples. I took an asp.net practice exam a few days after reading it and book had covered most areas that came up.

Real ASP.Net Book..!

ASP.Net is so different from ASP. I know that, having done Classic ASP for about 4 years now and ASP.Net from Beta1 onwards. And still this book changed the way I think of / do ASP.Net programming. The book can as well be titled "Object Oriented Approach to ASP.Net Programming". The author sticks strictly to best coding practices (than some easier way to code), goes thro most of the classes we will be using in ASP.Net and a lot more. He will go advanced but knows where to stop - telling you it's enouugh for ASP.Net (which I agree - I don't expect an ASP book to teach me .Net OOP tharoughly. I would rather turn to "OOP with Microsoft Visual Basic .NET and Microsoft Visual C# Step by Step" by Robin A. Reynolds-Haertle or the forthcoming "Visual Basic .Net Object and Component Handbook" by Peter Vogel ). The author explains you as if he is working with you in a senior position and has a relentless style to drag you thro all of the features in-depth and their benefits that someone new to .Net programming may be scared. VB.Net is used in sample codes (he explains every new concept with code) but initially he gives a real good comparison of C# and VB.Net including how to do the same thing in both languages (And again if I want to learn C#, I don't want to learn from some ASP.Net book - I'd rather learn from "Microsoft Visual C# .NET Step by Step" by John Sharp, Jon Jagger or "Programming C#, 2nd Edition (O'Reilly Windows)" by Jesse Liberty or "Programming Windows(r) with C# (Core Reference)" by Charles Petzold )
That said I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has been familiar with ASP and done some programming and want to learn ASP.Net completely, tharoughly.

Judy is Funny! Providing lots of Entertainment.

I bought this for my niece, who just turned eight. This is her first chapter book and she is really enjoying it. Judy can be a little 'moody' and up to no good at times. I explained that Judy is a character, not real, like many of the characters on her favorite tv shows. I told to enjoy the humor of the stories, but to not actually behave like her. She understood and is really enjoying the stories. And is very excited to tell her teacher that she read her first chapter book while on holiday break.

My daughter is six and is frustrated that as she gets older the books have less pictures and are not as fun to read (her own words). She hasn't put this book set down yet. She has one that she's reading and walks around with the other two all day long. It's a beginnger chapter book so not difficult to read, pictures are peppered throughout and she likes that and most of all, the books are funny. She reads and laughs throughout the day - totally engaged. I'm so happy I found a book series that she likes better than watching TV.

Now I have to find something similar for my 8 year old...
