I just started reading your book I am absolutely blown away by it. I cannot believe that I had missed this marvelous work. My ignorance knows few, if any, limits!

You pull together such a span of ideas and integrate them beautifully with your own angle, stimulating one's thinking. This is the kind of mind opening perspective to which I like to expose my classes. Thank you for condensing it so powerfully. By the way, the bibliographic notes are as exciting a read as is the rest of the book. I look forward to devouring the rest of the book.

About the Author
Gareth Morgan is well known for his creative contributions to management. He is the author of seven books, including Images of Organization, Creative Organization Theory, Imaginization and Riding the Waves of Change. He acts as consultant and seminar leader to numerous organizations throughout Europe and North America, and is Distinguished Research Professor at York University in Toronto. He has sat on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management, and Organization Studies; and is a Life Fellow of the International Academy of Management. Born in Wales, he now lives in Toronto with his wife, Karen and their children Evan and Heather.

A better version than the most recent edition

I ordered this book in error. I should have ordered the most recent version. I did try to use the book and found it to be helpful. Unfortunately the course syllabus specifically was using references from the updated version which has different chapters and different page numbers. It was fortunate for me that I was able to return the book with a credit and get the updated version. Actually I preferred this version to the newer one, but did not know that until the exchange had been made.

Too esoteric...hard to follow.

I am a graduate student in organizational development. Although this book has some good underlying concepts, I found most of the book hard to follow and not very engaging. It was often difficult to see how many of the concepts actually apply to organizations. There may be good ideas, but they often get lost in the rambling chapters.

About the Author

Jonathan Lee received his PhD degree from Texas A&M University in 1993, the year he joined the faculty of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Central University (NCU) in Taiwan. His research interests include agent-based software engineering, service-oriented computing and goal-driven software engineering. He is currently a Professor of CSIE and the Director of Computer Center at NCU. Dr. Jonathan Lee has published more than 100 refereed papers, three edited books and an authoring text book on Software Engineering in Chinese. He received a Distinguished University Professor award from Chinese Electrical Engineering Association (Taiwan) in 2008 and an Endowed Professor award from NCU in 2007. He is a senior member of the IEEE Computer Society and a member of the ACM.

Shang-Pin Ma received his PhD and BS degrees in Computer Science and Information Engineering from National Central University, Chungli, Taiwan, in 2007 and 1999, respectively. He has been an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department, National Taiwan Ocean University, Keelung, Taiwan, since 2008. His research interests include web-based software engineering, service-oriented computing and semantic web.

Alan Liu received the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Illinois, Chicago, in 1994. He is currently a Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Chung Cheng University, Chiayi, Taiwan. His research interests in artificial intelligence and software engineering include knowledge acquisition, requirements analysis, intelligent agents, service computing and applications in embedded systems and robotic systems. Dr. Liu is a member of IEEE, ACM, Taiwanese Association for Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering Association of Taiwan and Robotics Society of Taiwan.

Today, she has amassed over 20,000,000 views on her writing and has become a reader favorite. So happy that she finally decided to compile some of her favorite works into book form. Nice and pleasant read, but could benefit from some more editing.

I read this book primarily because I've seen Dushka's writing on the Internet for a year or two, and liked it enough to be curious about what's in her book.

It's a ~150 page collection of short essays, mostly focusing on what I might, for lack of a better term, call self-development. Dushka talks about relationships. About depression. About happiness. About finding meaning in your life. About handling loss. About yoga and about coffee, to name a few things.

Most of the essays are short, generally less than 4 pages, and some are less than a half-page.

What I like most about this collection is that Dushkas general attitude towards life and the events in it is both kind and warmhearted; and her writing is good with many amusing and insightful observations. This is a book that should be read slowly, and with a big cup of tea or something. You need to pause and think about what you've read in order to digest it properly; and when you do, you find a lot that has value.

When I still give this collection "only" 3 stars it's because the book still to some degree feels as if it's not-quite-finished. In particular, the book repeats itself sentence for sentence in a few places. That's understandable given the source of many of these essays, but I think the book would still benefit from editing these things out; where two or three essays repeat the very same sentences, I think that's mostly a sign that those 2-3 essays should be edited together into one.

This would also help reduce another of the drawbacks of the book: the essays are short, so even though it's a thin book, there's still *many* of them; (more than 50) it doesn't seem that they're sorted in any particular sequence either, so at the moment the book feels a bit like jumping randomly from one short essay to another with high frequency.

Having moved in with her mother's parents after the death of her father, Louise finds that her grandmother's increasing reliance on the local church for comfort after her husband's death draws a soon to be unwelcome guest to the family home: the verger, Mr. Jarvis. Whilst outwardly paying attention to her widowed grandmother, he also seems to be focussed on Louise herself, and abuses his position of trust, both at the church's Sunday school and in the family home, to force his unnatural obsessions on her.

Even after Louise's mother remarries and she can finally look forward to moving away from Mr. Jarvis, Louise must endure one more harrowing attack before he is finally caught out. But even then, with child protection teams still very much in their infancy in the early 1980s, Louise still lives with the consequences of her unstable childhood.

Kept my interest from start to finish

After reading the book, I was surprised at the low scores some people have given this book. Yes, it is short and can be read in a couple of hours by a fast reader. However, I felt the book was well written in a natural voice and easy to follow. The very few minor typos did not create a problem for me. The story takes place in England, and the author tells of her experience of being abused by a "trusted" leader from the family's church. I was fascinated by the ploy used by the abuser, and I learned from the author how confusing it was for her. I appreciated that she shared the thought process she went through as she tried to understand what had happened to her. The author states that she wrote her story as part of writing therapy, and I'm grateful for the education it provided us readers. Very well done, "Louise."

Not nearly enough detail. Felt no connection to Louise at all. Save your money and read Kat Ward's books. This was more like a book report.

About the Author
Marian C. Diamond, Ph.D., is a Professor of Anatomy at the University of California at Berkeley. She teaches general human anatomy and neuroanatomy and has conducted numerous lines of research into the effect of the environment and hormones on the forebrain. About the Author
Aristotle was born in 384BC. For twenty years he studied at Athens at the Academy of Plato, on whose death in 347 he left, and some time later became tutor to Alexander the Great. On Alexander's succession to the throne of Macedonia in 336, Aristotle returned to Athens and established his school and research institute, the Lyceum. After Alexander's death he was driven out of Athens and fled to Chalcis in Euboea where he died in 322. His writings profoundly affected the whole course of ancient and medieval philosophy.

Good edition of the Greek text with a clear and helpful translation by H. Rackham.

This is a very good edition of the Nicomachean Ethics translated by H. Rackham. The english text (available at Perseus Digital Library) is intended for those who want to read the greek text and use the english as a support, as the english text will often interpret the text and undo many of the obscurities of the original, preserved in more faithful translations as the one of W.D. Ross. For those working with this text I would recomend both Rackham's and Ross's translations.

The greek text is the one of Bekker, revised with the aid of Susemihl (1880), Bywater (1891) and Alpet (1902), and published notes of other scholars (like H.H. Joachim). (The greek text is also available at Perseus.)

Overall, I found this one to be the best edition for scholarly purposes.

As of the book itself - materially - it a is a decent edition. It has a nice binding and a hardcover. The pages are somewhat thin and may get damaged if you just hold the book long enough (especially if you tend to sweat in your hands). The letters are big enough so you can read without difficulty, but you won't have much space in the page to writte comments (unless you can write really small).

The best edition of the Ethics

Still to my mind the best edition and translation of the Ethics. I say this as someone working on his own. Besides the obvious quality of content, the publication is superior: beautifully bound with strong clean paper in a nice sized book that is clear to read.

A good version

Aristotle was for a long time difficult to understand, but I later learned that it was because I had the wrong teachers. Most people I talked to from when I was very young never completely understood it, but they pretended to as a way of justifying certain actions. Among my official professors in university, it turned out that the first only gave me a basic understanding of it, the second had mostly studied new age interpretations, the third gave a repeat of the first, but she had less understanding. When I was finally learning the truth of it from decent university professors, I still wasn't completely certain of what I was learning because of the past confusion, and I wasn't sure where to look for a good translation, as a French translation of Aristotle's works had some bad translation. A former professor who had good knowledge of it recommended this. And now it is all much clearer.

I do not agree with everything that Aristotle wrote and taught, and I have found flaws. But this is a good book to read in order to better understand what he really did say. When a person has problems understanding a professor, others often say to read it yourself, but they often do not give good suggestions of specifically what to read. This is one of the better versions.
